After working for 3½ years I am in a position to comment on the good and not so good aspects of working in TCS. 1. Working in such a big MNC means one's general work experience can vary from project to project as timings, work ease, technologies and everything else related to one's work will differ. 2. I was lucky to get opportunity in Financial Services IOU (Insurance domain). I have been involved in TCS BANCS which is a company product with out clients being top insurance providers across the world. Got a great team with good leaders who guided me to learn and develop my skills. 3. I am also happy that TCS provided Digital Capability Assessment, which was a combination of exams and interviews to prove one's merit and thus increase one's compensation. Although the assessments had their flaws with system failure during coding assessments too common and very inconsistent interview patterns across the board, it was still an opportunity for junior employees to increase their compensation benefits. 4. The health insurance provided by TCS in association with New India Insurance with Medibuddy acting as 3rd party is one of the best offered in corporate world. 5. Job security is really paramount here. If you do your job and have strived to become an important part of your respective work, you needn't fear about losing job ever. 6. Consistent pay under every circumstances. Even during COVID infected world and uncertain circumstances, we always received our salary on time. TCS had announced that there would be no lay offs whatsoever due to covid. Only variable pay for senior employees had been suspended for 2 quarters. And our yearly appraisals for 2020-21 were delayed from April to September. 7. TCS rolled out its SBWS model of Work From Home, the earliest in April 2020 and have continued it till date (writing in December 2021). There have been no compulsions yet, to return to work from office....Read More

Dislikes

Well there are yet some not so good points too. 1. The starting salary of a on campus freshman is not much. TCS has maintained the starting salary at the same amount for a decade now, in spite of the value of Rupee falling terribly in that period and inflation consistently rising. Meaning 3.3LPA in 2010 is not worth the same nowin 2021. 2. While joining the company, like many other IT giants, the technology you are mapped into and the project you get into are random and may not always depend on your preferred technology or the programming language you are versed in. 3. Although there's initial scope of learning and developing your skills, after few years it stops since you have learnt everything there is to. So you become stagnant with lack of up skilling opportunities from mid level. 4. Your career doesn't grow consistently and appraisal process isn't fool proof. Even though you have performed exemplary and your team and leaders mark you highest, project hierarchy may prevent appraising you well. This also means one doesn't get promoted in right times. It affects your career since you aren't getting your dues. 5. Work satisfaction and balance totally depends on the project and the people working there. 6. Less opportunities to learn new technologies and explore new things and get outside your working technology and domain. 7. If you are consistently doing wings1, wings2 exams you may get extra compensation, but it's almost not possible to do your job work and complete these exams simultaneously. Continuous project work prevents your from devoting any extra time to extra stuffs. 8. Initial training to new joinees is almost non existent except the training centre at Trivandrum....Read More

I liked the facalities provided at campus like cafeteria, coffee machine, courses provided to learn.

Even after being 14 days till I left the organization I am not able to access alumni portal to access my documents hr and my separation officer are not picking up my call my manager is also not picking up the call. They say info added by me in alumni portal is not correct as per there records I access the contact us options to know which info is not correct but they are not replying. I called hr (separation officer) Neesha Sharma that I am unable to access she provided me on email ID but it was incorrect. I called HR Nishant Shahu for help but he is also not picking up the call. I am not sure if I need to go to a lawyers office to have my remaining amount and other documents. Please let me know if there's anyone at tcs who could help me with this issue. Other than that my worst experience at TCS includes first overtime I was working 18 hours a day daily at a 10 hour job. I used to work on saturday and sunday. My colleagues were not working. And if any cases left manager shouts at me. There is a requirement of extra ft's in the project but TCS will ask there associates to work 16 hour a day. Rather than hiring a new FT. I was miserable at the time I decided to quit my job. Because I couldn't take it anymore. If it was a good job where I could learn something new and my package would increase then I would have never left it. But this is a job for lazy workers. Because they know that no one can throw them out. I am not gonna write I am gonna kill myself if I didn't found a job in future. Also the bps industry which has been developed is nothing more than a data entry what they call so proudly that BFSI domain people dont even consider it as a skill. The people who work here are pure robot. Why dont you create robots to do the work you wont get any escalations. Also coworkers gets emotionally attached which is not a right thing. TTL= Tata Technologies Ltd. TSL = Tata Steel ( TTL's client in Jamshedpur) I was deployed at Jamshedpur, Tata Steel-TGS premises, Ghamariya. Here, I had the worst experience in my 13 years of experience. Though, I worked for almost 3 years. Do not expect respect from the client as well as from our management/TTL. You will be grilled all the time. There are 6 working days but you may be asked to work on Sunday sometimes. The designation does not matter in terms of work. It only matters for TTL/management to charge a monthly wedge from the TSL/client in your name. No one will assist you to find your accommodation once you reach there. Though, it is 20+ km from main Jamshedpur city. Notice period 90 days means 90 days. You don't even think a single lesser day in the notice. Because TTL is getting money on your name from TSL/client. Most importantly, there is no job security. As in past pandemics, they threw employees like anything...without notice pay. 3 Shifts are working. The shift may be extended as per their wish. TTL's working culture may be better than this location at Tata steel- TGS ghamariya (Jamshedpur). This location's work culture is too much bad, even you can not imagine beyond. Do not consider your performance bonus and company performance bonus in your salary. As you are never going to get this amount. Appraisal:- Nothing has been decided on your hard work, at the end of the year favoritism and politics win. There are many gangs and groups within TTL, who is on your side and who is not, it is very difficult to decide. The one whom you think is a good person and can trust...is indeed a big gangster. HR is just a poppet. HR behaves according to what the local or management team dictates them to behave. HR never follows policy. Believe me, they change policy on the spot. If you will ask much about giving reference to the policy they will answer you that they are not having concerns policy and they are planning to make one what they are behaving for your issues. This means they decide the policy after implementing the things. A big irony is the HR head is the Ethics head. How can you expect that one can get justice? There is literally nothing, I like about this company. I have to think about what I can write in this section. But I didn't got anything to write.

Everything you will dislike here. There is no bus service for outsider of khopoli. The HR will make false promises about, Bus service upto your nearest location or you will get accommodation in company's township. Then there is huge deduction in salary. Which is not shown in salary slip. They will provide detailed annexure of how much CTC. But when you receive your salary slip there will be huge difference. Then no one will listen to you. Everyone will force you to shift to khopoli or leave the job. You have to manage your accommodation and food. Because canteens food is costly and you will be suffering digestive problems many times. Then if you are engineer, you are made to work like operator. Everyone has to do all work. If cleaning person is not available, then you have to do cleaning by yourself. The level of work we do is not for engineers. Even 12th pass can easily do documentation work. It clearly means that we are only there to work as Inspection Operator. If no work load is there, you can not sit idle in your cabin silently. Because you are new joinee. You have to impress your managers by showing that you are doing something. Even if you clean your cabin. He will be impressed. He will not see whether you are doing any engineer's work or helpers work. Company provides you 45 days leave. But, your HOD will not going to approve your single day leave, until you beg to him. I live 40km away from company location. Borrowed 50laks loan to buy my dream house. But unfortunately, I joined Tata steel BSL. Because of the name TATA. Now I'm forced to stay in khopoli and leave my house. Because there is no bus service to my home location. And before joining HR made false promises about bus service. What should I do? I'm suffering. My more than half salary is going into EMI and 6k in petrol. I'm financial problems every month. I only get 2-4 hours for my personal life. I drive 3-4 hours daily for commuting to my work. Work there for 8 hours and when reached home. I get tired and sleep for 8 hours. As we work in shift, our duty timing changes every week. No time for family.

My personal experience there was only memorable because of the people employed there with me, my teammates. They were the ones that no one could have asked for, the best ones around. More like a family. Supportive, smart, innocent and always available whenever you needed them.

Dislikes

1. Pay is pathetic, even less than that of a daily wage labour. 2. Other allowances like internet allowance ( it was 410 per month), Over time are way too less than the effort that we used to put in. 3. Management like manager and team leads are not at all worthy to be in a corporate environment. There ways around other employees was totally unprofessional,instances like interrupting people and saying in matters where they have absolutely no clue, just to prove that they are the supreme ones. And the worst part about the managers and team leads was their english fluency, it was a torture to our ears when they used to address us in english. 4. Hell of a work life balance, they say it is optional to work on weekends but by the end of Friday night, they will just get on top of your head, trying to convince you to work on weekends. 5. Timings: one week it was 12pm to 10 pm and the next week it would be 3 pm to 1 am. You sleep cycle, attentiveness and everything that is anyhow related to your brain will get hampered, and I can guarantee you that. 6. Visible favouritism. If you belong to the area where your manager is from, you will definitely be protected and unnecessarily praised for the tiniest things. Moral: A good ' QUALIFIED' manager is needed to fetch the best out of all the employees. Note: All the above points are written by an employee who had zero beef with anyone and who was one of the most beloved employee in his project.
